COVID-19 Operations Written Report
Resuming School Operations - Mon, May 04, 2020
Good Morning Granite Mountain Families,
I hope this email finds you well during these unprecedented times. On April 8th, we let you all know that our school closure was extended through May 1st. I am writing to inform you that, as of today, May 4th, our school is now in a state of open. We hope to remain in that state through the end of the school year.
We believe that, as we function under an independent study model, we can serve you at this time in a state of open. Your HST will be reaching out to you to schedule your final learning period meeting and will collect a work sample of work completed between now and the end of the school year. However, as the stay at home order remains in place, this meeting will need to take place virtually. Additionally, your HST will be working with you to coordinate signing any unsigned attendance logs for the dates that we were open. Moving forward, and through the rest of the school year, we will send you your LP attendance logs virtually, through the parent portal or by email. You may also request to have an attendance log mailed to you.
Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions. Most importantly, please let us know if you anticipate struggle with meeting or completing attendance during this period of open, as we want to help you through any challenging circumstances that your family may be facing.
As always, we are here to serve you in meeting your child’s homeschool needs.
Best,
Brook MacMillan

COVID-19 School Update - Fri, Mar 20, 2020
Dear Granite Mountain Trailblazer Families,
Family First. Over the last year, you have become our family, and we love that you have welcomed us into your family. The last 24 hours have been extremely difficult, as we have sought answers and guidance on the best course of action to serve you all during this time of emergency. We have conducted a resource/community needs analysis and feel like the underlying theme is that we need to put family first.
Over the past 24 hours, we have received emails from staff members and our families regarding their exposure to the illness and ask that you all keep our community in your thoughts and prayers.
Adding to this, at 7:30 p.m. last night, we watched Governor Newsom present his mandate for families to shelter in place statewide and heard his prediction that 50% of the state will catch this virus. At 8:45 p.m. last night, our Board of Directors gathered and made the decision to temporarily pause the normal operations of our school.
Please know that this decision was not made lightly, but was considered carefully with your needs at heart as well as the needs of the whole child and your family unit. We feel a strong urging to provide our community with time and space. What this means is that we will continue to provide all students with a high-quality education, but you will not be asked to submit attendance logs. We will continue to support you with resources and progress monitoring for your child to ensure their growth. Your virtual CC events will continue. Ordering will continue. Instruction will continue.
Most importantly, as family, we continue to be only a phone call, text, zoom or email away. We will support you in your homeschool instruction and will continue to be innovative in best practices that meet the needs of our students. We will not abandon you during this time, but rather seek to alleviate the pressure placed upon you in regards to compliance requirements that occur when a school is open rather than closed. Our hope is to resume normal operations on April 13, 2020.
Family isn’t always blood. It’s the people in your life who want you in theirs; the ones who accept you for who you are. The ones who would do anything to see you smile and who you love no matter what.
Thank you for continuing to be a part of our Granite Mountain family. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
With Love,
Brook MacMillan
